Last week while we were at Camp DuNord, I did the Polar Bear Club which is where you get up at 7:20 each morning and jump into Burntside Lake. It's freezing. Here's a picture of us going in. That's me in the orange swimsuit. After the polar bear swim each morning we went and got cocoa and hot coffee and treats cooked in the dutch oven at the yurt.

Rockclimbing at REI
It was the first time I had ever done rock climbing on a wall that went up. I have been bouldering before at Camp St. Croix, but going up instead of sideways was new to me. We got there right when the store opens because there is no wait, but if you get there later there is about a 3 hour wait. So we went there real early and there wasn't a wait so Dad got me fitted with the equipment and I went on the wall. The people there always urged you on a little further so I think I got about 2/3 of the way up the wall on my first time. Dad tried a harder wall and probably got up the same amount. At first I started out with a lot of energy and was going up pretty fast, but then I started tiring out. I looked up- it's just ragged rock that goes straight up to a little overhang that you don't think you are going to be able to do. I also looked down, I was maybe 20 feet in the air so that was a mistake. It was really scary. My hands got pretty shaky and I told the belayer I couldn't get up any farther. They pushed me up just a little higher and then I went down. But then after that, maybe for about 3 weekends, we kept going back. And then maybe at the last weekend I might have gotten up a little further than about 3/4 of the wall. Dad got up that high too but that was on the harder wall that he was doing. Wait, actually Dad got 11/12 of the way up his and his wall was even harder than the one I was doing.
Surfing in San Diego
A little while ago we went to San Diego and I went surfing on the beach near Oceanside. My uncle Tim got a wetsuit my size and even some boots. I felt a little weird having water in the suit that is supposed to keep you warm. We got a shorty wet suit for Theo but he took about five steps pretty boldly but then turned around and ran. The water was too cold for him in a wetsuit that reached only down to his knees. We went like three times while we were there. And after he tried to go in with his shorty wetsuit, Theo pretty much stayed out of the waves. He played on the beach and looked for shells. One day we went on a walk together and found around 20 sand dollars.
